The Archer is a wheeled 155mm self-propelled howitzer jointly designed by Bofors and BAE Systems . Development of the Archer began in 1995. BAE Systems mounted a 155mm FH-77 gun system at the rear of a modified Volvo VME A25C (6 × 6) chassis . 

Compared to conventional self - propelled howitzers , the Archer's operational conversion time has been reduced from 10 minutes to just 30 seconds. The first officially commissioned vehicle was delivered around October 2011. Each Archer system requires a crew of 3-4 , a significant improvement over the 10-12 personnel required by previous towed howitzers.
