The Messerschmitt Me 323 Gigant was the largest land-based transport aircraft to see operational service during the Second World War.

 Developed from the earlier Me 321 glider, the six-engined Me-323E-2 Gigant became a vital heavy transport aircraft for the German Luftwaffe, capable of carrying troops, vehicles, artillery and essential supplies across long distances.

Its enormous wingspan and distinctive corrugated fuselage made it one of the most recognisable aircraft of the war.

Powered by six Gnome-Rhône radial engines, the Me-323E-2 was designed to move oversized cargo that conventional transport aircraft could not handle.

Despite its impressive carrying capacity, the Gigant was vulnerable to enemy fighters due to its size and relatively slow speed, leading to heavy losses during operations in the Mediterranean theatre and on the Eastern Front.
