Sd.Kfz. 254 (named Sonderkraftfahrzeug 254) is a German wheeled-track reconnaissance and observation vehicle from the Second World War. The first prototypes of these cars were made in 1937. A year later, serial production started, which led to the creation of about 130-140 vehicles of this type. The drive was provided by a single 4-cylinder Saurer CRDv engine with 70 HP. It was armed with a single 7.92 mm MG34 machine gun.

Future Sd.Kfz. 254, still under the designation RR-7, was designed and put into production by Saurer as a new observation vehicle for artillery units of the Armed Forces of Austria. It uses a very unusual mixed wheel-track traction to enable it to achieve the highest maximum speed on the road and ensure the greatest possible mobility in the field. After the annexation of Austria by the Third Reich (German: Anschluss) in 1938 and the conduct of field trials by the Wehrmacht, the production of the vehicle continued. It also began to be used as a reconnaissance vehicle and light armored personnel carrier. Relatively large amount of Sd.Kfz. 254 served in North Africa in the period 1941-1943 and in the initial phase of the war with the Soviet Union on the Eastern Front.
