The SU-122-54 (Project 600) was a 122mm self-propelled anti-tank gun developed based on the T-54A, also known as the IT-122. Between 1955 and 1957, a total of 77 vehicles were produced, with minor differences between them (such as different commander's cupolas). The SU-122-54's chassis was modified from the T-54A, with a smaller gap between the first and second road wheels and a larger gap between the third and fourth road wheels, giving it a somewhat T-62 appearance. The upper part of the hull featured a redesigned armored fighting compartment, housing a 122mm D-49 gun with a barrel length of 48.4 calibers and an internal ammunition capacity of 35 rounds.

Secondary armament consisted of two KPVT heavy machine guns, one mounted at the commander's hatch for anti-aircraft fire, and the other used as a coaxial machine gun. The vehicle could carry 600 rounds of machine gun ammunition. The main gun has a fume extractor installed behind the muzzle brake; only a few vehicles lack this fume extractor. Other changes include different commander's hatches.
